How Much is an Electric Car?

2018 is the year where electric vehicle industry is growing fast. There are a wide range of choices available for those thinking of getting their first ever electric cars. Batteries are also getting stronger time by time, enabling EVs to travel the longer distances.

Many European countries have also built more charging stations to support long journeys. It seems like now is the perfect time to get an electric car, but how much is an electric car?

Well, we can’t simply answer the question with an exact figure since electric cars have varying price tags just like the gas and diesel-powered ones do. With different brands, levels of features and tech equipments, you will get different prices too.

If an affordable EV with range under 100 miles is what you want, then the Fiat 500e may be the right choice for you. It offers 84 miles of range on a single charge for $32,995.

Other options include Honda Clarity Electric and Volkswagen e-Up! which offers 89 and 99 miles respectively. The prices are $37,590 for the former and $34,500 for the later. Cheaper than all these three is the $23,800 Smart Fortwo ED with 100 miles of range on a fill charge.

Still, if range (not price) is your primary consideration, then the Tesla Model S 100D may be the best choice for you. The $94,000 EV has the longest range of 335 miles, but it’s not the most expensive one. Currently, the most expensive electric car is the Tesla Model X P 100D, which costs $140,000 and offers 289 miles of range.

Slow but sure, electric cars are getting more and more affordable. Prices are gradually going down as the production increases and the competition tightens. Furthermore, the declining cost of lithium-ion batteries adds more cuts to the prices.

Generally, electric cars cost far less than the conventional ones thanks to their renewable energy source, oil-free nature, and less maintenance needs. Electric cars are rechargeable and have no exhaust systems, which heavily reduces the side costs one usually bears with an internal-combustion car.
